Front-End Web Development Workshop // TECH 232

Session I: Wednesday, July 6th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
Session II: Tuesday, July 12th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
Session III: Wednesday, July 20th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
A little bit of code goes a long way. This hands-on workshop will take an existing design and build it from scratch, teaching students to troubleshoot from start to finish. Over the course of the series, students will learn to:
- Write HTML and CSS
- Modify jQuery scripts
- Incorporate web fonts
- Build pixel-perfect layouts with Firebug
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of HTML, Firefox browser with Firebug installed, a binary text editor (Notepad, TextEdit, Dreamweaver). New skills will be reinforced through homework assignments, which will be reviewed in class.
Session I (7/6): Beginning Layouts
This session will open with a brief introduction to the project, and careful review of the layout to be coded. Together, the group will build the layout, working on overall structure (alignment, pictures, etc.). Q&A will follow.
Session II (7/13): Web fonts and jQuery Plugins
Students will spend the first portion of this session working on the layout. Then, after a lesson on web fonts and the jQuery 'Coda Slider' plugin, the group will incorporate these features. Q&A will follow.
Session III (7/20): Finalizing Layouts
This session will focus on troubleshooting any remaining issues and finalizing the layout.
